KCL ISOC Tajweed Programme 2013-2014
This year, KCL ISOC are pleased to announce the start of yet another initiative to provide support for Muslims on campus, academically, socially and deen-wise. It is with these intentions that we will be starting a Tajweed programme across KCL, starting with Guy’s and Strand Campuses.
What is Tajweed?
Tajweed is the art of reciting the Qur’an as it was meant to be recited. In the Qur’an, Allah swt says “And recite it in slow, measured recitation” (Surah Muzzammil, 73:4). It is a basic requirement of our deen to recite the Qur’an as much as we can. This year we will be providing classes across both Guy’s and Strand on a weekly basis designed to teach students to read the Qur’an with tajweed.
Importance of Tajweed
The Quran is the word of Allah, and its every syllable is from Allah. Its recitation must be taken very seriously. The purpose of the Science of Tajweed, in essence, is to make the reciter proficient in reciting the Quran, observing the correct pronunciation of every letter with the rulings and characteristics which apply to it, without any exaggeration or deficiency. This course is designed to help you avoid mistakes that nullify your prayers and teach you to read Book of Allah in the best manner..
The classes will be free for the first semester, but course materials (Qaidah) will cost £10 to purchase - bring this to your first lesson.
Students of all abilities are welcome, including beginners and more intermediate students.
Registration for the classes will be required before starting (see below)
